Speech Therapy

A pediatric speech pathologist works with children to improve their communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Clinicians in pediatric speech pathology work to prevent, evaluate, and treat these communication-related disorders.

Julia was born and raised in Kāneʻohe and attended school just down the road on Mookua Street. She later earned her Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from Loma Linda University in Southern California. After spending some time on the West Coast, she was grateful for the opportunity to move back home to Hawaiʻi to be near family as she began her own.

Early in her career, she developed a strong passion for supporting children’s language and literacy development. In preparation for becoming a parent—and with a desire to support other families—she became a Certified Lactation Counselor in Spring 2024. After welcoming her son in May 2024, she felt a deep pull toward early pediatric feeding, an area that has become both professionally and personally meaningful.

She believes that connection is at the heart of effective therapy—not only with the children she works with but with their families as well. She especially values co-treatment sessions with occupational therapists, where collaboration helps children achieve regulation. When children feel calm and safe in their bodies, they are better prepared to learn, communicate, and connect. Her goal is always to create a warm, trusting environment where every child and parent feels seen, supported, and empowered.

Outside of the therapy room, she enjoys spending time with her family, beach days, hiking to waterfalls, and staying current with research in the field of speech-language pathology.

Hello, I’m Katie! I am a mom of 4 crazy kiddos, a military wife, and an animal lover. My family and I love living the aloha life, spending as much time as possible in the sand. We enjoy exploring the lagoons, going on kid-friendly hikes, and frequenting the many farmer’s markets on island.

I graduated from Texas State University in 2014 with my Master’s in Communication Disorders. I have had the pleasure of working with both children and adults throughout my career. Most recently, I serviced the pediatric population in Okinawa, Japan, treating differences such as articulation impairments, language delays, and social-pragmatic challenges. My goal in therapy is to provide a play-based environment tailored to your child’s needs and interests. I love incorporating pretend play, music, and games in therapy. I also believe family involvement is essential for speech and language development and generalization outside of treatment.

Creating meaningful relationships and seeing my client’s succeed brings me so much joy. I can’t wait to watch your children flourish!
